Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation that operates on a feminist framework and is committed to assisting and enabling women and children experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land we work on, as the first people of this country. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders past, present and emerging.

Our vision is for greater safety, respect and dignity for all women and their children in Central Australia.

REMOTE OUTREACH

Our Remote Outreach Team provides support to you if you live in Yuendumu, Papunya, Anmatjere (Ti Tree) and Ntaria (Hermannsburg). Our Remote Outreach Team gets out to communities regularly, but can also arrange a special trip in certain situations. They can come to you, or you can come and talk to them at their office. Our Remote Outreach Team works with the clinic, the police and local groups in your community that support women, to help women at risk and teach women about how to stay safe.

The Outreach Program can help you if you are:

  • A woman who was staying at the shelter but has gone home and would still like support.

  • A woman who has not been staying at the shelter but would like to talk with someone.

  • A woman who feels unsafe, is homeless, or sleeping rough.

If you are living in Yuendumu, Papunya, Anmatjere (Ti Tree) or Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and experiencing violence, you can ask for visits from our Outreach workers. Your situation can change very quickly, so visits from the Remote Outreach Team help everyone to keep track of how things are going and to check on your safety on an ongoing basis.

We can have a cup of tea and talk together, or support you through life changes as they are happening. At different times during difficult relationships, the support you might need will be different – sometimes you may need a lot and sometimes not as much. The Outreach Team is there for you as little or as much as you need.

Our Outreach Program was started a while ago and over the past decade, as more funding became available, it has evolved into two teams. The Urban Outreach Team supports women in Alice Springs and the Remote Outreach Team supports women in remote communities in Central Australia and the tri state areas of Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland.

Both our Urban and Remote Teams work closely with other services in Alice Springs, to provide a strong support network to women experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence. The Outreach Program believes in early intervention - working with women and their children to keep them safe and reduce their need to access the shelter and its services.

The Outreach Team has a discrete office in the centre of Alice Springs where women are welcome to drop in any time between 9am and 4pm weekdays. If you don’t live in town, and can’t visit our Outreach office in Alice Springs, let us know and someone from the Remote Outreach Team will arrange help for you, or to come and see you on community. If you live in Alice Springs, but can’t visit our Outreach office, let us know and someone from the Urban Outreach Team can come to visit you.

The Outreach Program is free for all women and their children, who are experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence.

If you are a local service provider or health worker, you can also complete this referral form to make sure women get the support they need.
